Sarangi Day 2012
February 26th, 2012Friends in Kathmandu! We’re proud to be supporting the Gandharba Cultural & Arts Organization in presenting Sarangi Day 2012, a celebration of traditional Nepali folk music and culture. If you’re in town this week, please join us at the Russian Cultural Center, Tuesday February 28th for an afternoon of some rare and amazing performances.
The program begins at 1PM with a symposium featuring presentations from the Nepali Folklore Society, ethnomusicologist Stephanie Spray, and MMP’s own Jacob Penchansky. Around 2:30, we have several Gandharba musicians from around Nepal performing from the vast repertoire of Nepali lok geet (folk songs). If you’ve been to past Sarangi Days, we’re excited to have a whole new group of musicians, hailing from Tanahun, Lamjung, Gorkha, Kaski, Chitwan, Dang, Bhojpur, Jhapa, and of course from the Kathmandu valley. We may just fit in a screening of the the Nepali language version of the MMP film at noon if you can come early.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, please call Buddha at +977 9841245882 or Jake at +977 9818210700
