Mahayana Nuns also making beautiful music in Nepal

April 15th, 2014

Our focus has generally been on the Gandharba musicians of Nepal, but Nepal is full of all sorts of music both secular and religious in many languages and from many ethnicities. I (Tara) was privileged to get invited to come to the beautiful Nagi Gumpa (monastery) where I met wonderful women who have devoted themselves to their faith in Mahayana Buddhism and live, practice, and teach on a remote mountain on the edge of the Kathmandu Valley. Here is just a small sampling of the divine chanting that brings to life the ancient Tibetan texts adding to the wondrous sounds and magic of Nepal.
